How to move home fast

25 Mar 2015 How to move home fast

It has often been argued that selling your house is one of life’s most stressful events, so what happens if you need to sell your home in a hurry - new baby on the way? Divorce or separation? A new job means you need to move abroad.

We at Andrew Porter Limited like to have a more optimistic outlook and although we accept there are numerous stages to completing a house move successfully, we believe our 40 years of home removal experience will help you to move home fast and fabulously. Our managing director, Tim Aspey, has nine top tips to share which may help to speed up the house moving process for you; from encouraging house hunters to buy, to helping you get organised and ready to move house quickly and efficiently!

Top Tip 1: Clear out the clutter

Spring is on its way, the clocks go forward this weekend meaning it will be lighter for longer - take advantage of it and tackle the spring clean that could help you sell your house by showcasing your home in the best possible way. We can hold your hand through the decluttering process by following the simple steps outlined on our blog.

Top Tip 2: In need of space? Storage is the answer

Whether it’s an old armchair, garden furniture or the kids’ toys – any items that stand out in your home may put off potential buyers from snapping up your house. Remember, not everyone is a parent and a trail of toys may get in the way of someone visualising your house as their new home. Storage may be the perfect solution to tidy up your home effectively.

Top Tip 3: Deep cleaning reaps rewards

It’s worth putting in that extra effort and perhaps putting some of your house-moving budget towards getting your home ship-shape for sale. You may wish to hire a professional cleaner to clean every nook and cranny or, if finances won’t stretch to that, jobs like shampooing the carpets can make a world of difference to your home looking and feeling fresh. On that subject, it’s good to be mindful that not all people are pet lovers so when you have house viewings prepare by putting animals outside to avoid any unwelcome attention for your visitors. When you have a pet you can become immune to the smell, so asking an objective third party to pose as a potential buyer may help identify any areas that you need to tackle before house viewing commences.

Top Tip 4: Finishing touches make all the difference

It may sound like an estate agent cliché that brewing freshly ground coffee or the smell of baked bread will help seal the deal for the hungry home buyer, but it’s true that the finishing touches do make a difference to a person’s viewing experience of your home. Fresh flowers in the main living areas such as the living room, dining room or kitchen are a good idea, as is replacing frayed or bleached bathroom towels with thick fluffy ones instead. It’s helpful to neutralise colours in your home, so take the time to redecorate any outlandish rooms. Ensure bedrooms are full of plump cushions - who wouldn’t love a home that is clean and filled with comfort? Don’t forget the outside of your home too - mow the lawn and trim the hedges to be sure that your house has that all-important kerb-appeal.

Top Tip 5: Picture perfect photography will make selling your house a snap

To secure that sale, it’s vital that you showcase your home in the best way possible. High quality photography is essential but if your budget won’t stretch to hiring a professional, fear not, we have some expert advice for photographing your home for sale yourself.

Top Tip 6: Pack-it-up flawlessly

Many people feel packing all of their worldly belongings from one home to another is a monumental task but it doesn’t need to be. Call in the experts to do it all for you, a good home removal firm will offer a range of packing options for you and provide the materials you need too.

Top Tip 7: First time movers, fear not!

If it’s the first time you’ve moved home it can be easy to feel overwhelmed minus the pressure to move quickly. For some advice for first time home movers, curl up with a cuppa and read our blog before you do anything.

Top Tip 8: Haven’t I forgotten something?

Many people leaving their house in a hurry may forget important things such as informing relevant people or organisations that you have changed address. Again, we’ve got it covered, have a look at our helpful hints and download our checklist of who to tell that you’ve moved home and now have a new address.

Top Tip 9: Never feel like you've left it too late

Of course, it’s always best to book your removal crews as early as possible to secure your preferred dates, but if you need a last-minute move don’t assume that you’ll have missed out. Our home removals teams are on the road throughout the country every day and we will always try our best to accommodate your needs.  For more information on how to move home in a hurry or any of our services, contact the Andrew Porter Limited team today on 0800 389 1222.
