Packing your belongings safely

There is a fine art to packing for your home move.  Read the advice from our professionals before you get started.

• Ensure you drain fuel from items such as lawnmowers or motorbikes.
• A colour code matching boxes to their appropriate rooms will make unpacking much easier.
• Attach small loose parts to an item with tape or in an envelope.
• Fill up packing boxes so they form a solid base for stacking.
• Use good quality packing boxes and protective materials such as bubble wrap, to ensure your items are kept safe.
• Pack books upright to avoid damaging the spines.
• To avoid condensation, do not store clothes in plastic bags or airtight containers.
• Label your boxes clearly on each side and mark which is the top.
• Pack electrical items, such as televisions, in their original boxes if possible.
• Make a list on the side of each box noting the key items inside.
