The experts at Andrew Porter Limited have put together some moving tips and advice on how to ensure your home move goes smoothly.
A month before…
- Book your removal date as early as possible to ensure you can confirm the most convenient time and date for your move.
- Ask your Andrew Porter Limited move coordinator about our extra services such as packing and insurance options.
- Take the opportunity to declutter your home to ensure you are not moving items you have no use for. See our decluttering section for some handy tips.
Two weeks before…
- Organise transport for your pets or enrol someone to care for them on the day of your move.
- Arrange care for children on the day of your move if necessary.
- Dismantle any larger items, such as self-assembly furniture or garden sheds, unless you have asked Andrew Porter Limited to do this for you.
The day before…
- Pack a box of items you will need quick access to when you move, such as a kettle, mugs, tea or coffee, biscuits, scissors, toothbrush/toothpaste, toilet roll, toiletries, pen and paper, basic cutlery and crockery, pet food, screwdriver, cleaning products and light bulbs.
- Set aside a 'do not move' area to keep items you want to carry with you.
- De-frost fridges and freezers.
- Have your TV aerials or satellite dishes taken down if you are taking them with you.
On the day….
- Pack your valuables safely together and carry them with you to your new home.
- Andrew Porter Limited can take up your carpets, if agreed in advance.
- Check nothing has been left before the removal team leaves.
- Check that the removal team has your correct new address and a contact telephone number for you.
