First-time moving into your new home?

03 Oct 2014 First-time moving into your new home?

Parents are delighted at having the kids move out and their home back to themselves, according to a new survey conducted by Norwegian cruise company, Hurtigruten.

Apparently, your folks cannot wait for you to fly the nest and many are already planning what to do with your spare room and their spare time! So whilst your parents are planning their worldwide cruise or drawing up plans to convert your old bedroom into an office or gym, why not focus your energy into moving into your first home, rather than fester about your parents’ new found joy when you finally move out?

Check out our top tips for planning your move into your first home.

Pre-move declutter

Moving out can be beneficial for both parties. The likelihood of you asking for your parents’ help or advice in your new home may be high, so why not keep them sweet by decluttering before you move out.

It makes complete sense, as it means less stuff for you to move and it will also ensure that your parents don’t stumble across anything they shouldn’t! Our six top tips for decluttering will help make your clear out simple and straight forward.  What’s more, selling items found from your declutter may raise funds to buy furnishings for your new home!

Packing perfectly

With over 40 years’ experience in home removals, there is nothing we don’t know about packing to move into your first home. In fact, look into our blog for the best advice on how to solve the biggest problems with packing to move home.

If you have any fragile or antique items to move our top five tips will ensure they are moved with the greatest care and arrive in your new pad in the same condition as it left your previous abode.

Store your surplus belongings

If, despite the decluttering, you still have belongings that won’t fit into your new home or you’re not yet sure where they should go, why not consider professional storage? Yes, we’re talking about those drawers full of old school books and childhood memories that you can’t quite part with, but that your parents really don’t want to keep! It’s really cost effective and easy to arrange, simply call 0800 389 1222 for a quote.

Countdown to the big day

In the time leading up to moving out it may be helpful to know the things you should be doing a month before you move and the day before.  Our useful moving home tips may provide a helpful guide of what to do and when to do it.

The key is to have a Plan B

Invest in a key box to keep all new keys safe - it can be expensive calling out a locksmith and there may not be anybody in the house at 3am to let you in! It’s a good idea to leave a spare house key with a family member, friend or neighbour.

Call in the experts

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If family or friends cannot help with moving or packing – you can call in a professional home removal service, a good quality company should offer a range of packing options, including doing the whole thing for you.

Likewise, when it comes to moving day, do your homework if you’re looking for a home removals company. For a stress-free move we can provide you with your own personal move coordinator who will guide you through your first-time move every step of the way, ensuring it goes smoothly and efficiently!

Good luck and enjoy your new home!
